10 Baking Tools Every Home Baker Needs

Baking is fun when you have the right equipment in your kitchen. Having a good version of all of these tools is essential for baking and makes the job a lot easier!



1. Gram scale

If you are measuring anything, a gram scale is the way to go. It is the most accurate tool to measure any ingredient. Simply turn it on and weigh your ingredients.


2. Offset spatula

This can be used to spread anything from cake batter to custard and frosting or anything spreadable. This tool has a million uses, and the handle makes it easy to maneuver. It can also be used to lift a product off of a table without using your hand.


3. Measuring cups and spoons

This is obviously another must-have. Measuring cups and spoons can be inexpensive and they come in various colors and sizes.


4. Oven

While some recipes are non-bake, if you do use an oven, it will impart characteristics on the final outcome of the product. The type of oven can enhance the flavor, aroma, color, and texture.


5. Measuring jugs

When measuring liquid ingredients like milk, you need to use measuring jugs as liquids are measured in milliliters and not grams. The bigger jugs have measurements from 100ml to 500mil while the smaller one measures up to 50ml.


6. Baking pans

There are various kinds of baking pans available of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Avoid using the black non stick ones. The light colored aluminum ones are more preferable if you are into baking muffins or cupcakes. Disposable pans are handy for gifting purposes.


7. Serrated knife

A serrated or a bread knife comes in handy while slicing your cake to give a neat presentation. This tool is more crucial if you are into bread making, but is also a must-have baking tool.


8. Parchment paper

Baking paper or parchment paper is coated to make it non-stick. It is used in baking as a disposable non-stick surface. It should not be confused with wax paper, which is paper that has been coated in wax.


9. Hand Mixer

Electronic hand mixers are used to make icings, buttercreams, dough, etc... as they generate a lot of air. They usually come with multiple attachments, and you can also adjust the speed.


10. Hand whisk

Hand whisks are used to mix dry ingredients for baking. These are available in different sizes.
